Example 1
Football - Day 1
Objectives:
1. Students will throw a football 2 out of 5 times.
2. Students will participate in the activities.
3. Students will communicate with others.
Equipment:
· Footballs, cones, hula-hoops, rope, goals, standards
Warm-up - 4-5 minutes
Football Relay
· Create several different relay lines.
· Place cones down the lines in a zigzag pattern.
· First student carries the football and runs to the cones using the zigzag pattern.
· When s/he gets to the end s/he turns around and comes back.
· Hand the ball to the next student and s/he can start.
· Continue this pattern until the warm-up time is over.
Hoop Toss - 7-10 minutes
· Prior to this activity show the students where to place their fingers on the football and how to throw.
· Tie hula-hoops to a rope.
· Hang the rope from two standards.
· Keep students in small relay lines.
· First student throws the football and tries to get it through the hoop.
· When a football goes through a hoop, the team receives a point.
· After throwing the football the student is in charge of retrieving it.
· The student brings it back and hands it to the next person in line.
· The next student now goes.
Football Rally - Remainder of class
· You may create different fields depending on class size.
· Two teams are playing.
· Set the goals up on opposite sides of the field.
· One team starts with the football.
· Students try to advance the football by throwing or tossing to teammates, without moving their feet.
· Students are not allowed to throw the ball backwards.
· Students must be given 3 feet of room to pass.
· Students have 5 seconds to throw the ball once they have it.
· When the student get to the goal line, s/he may throw the ball into the goal.
· There are no goalies.
· One point for each goal scored.
· The football must be passed three times before scoring.
· When the football touches the ground the team who touched it last does not get the ball, it will go to the opposite team.
Cool Down - 2-3 minutes
· Collect the equipment.
· Talk to students about some real rules in a football game.
· Line the students up for class.
