Example 2

Basketball - Day 7

Objectives:
1. Students will develop skills of passing, targeting, and hand-eye coordination.
2. Students will follow the rules of the activities.
3. Students will maintain or improve physical fitness level.

Equipment:
· Basketballs, hula-hoops

Warm-up - 4-5 minutes
Dribble, Pivot, Pass
· Use one ball for each line.
· Create small relay lines.
· Place the hula-hoop on the floor around 10 feet from the lines.
· First student dribbles to the hula-hoop.
· Place one foot in the hoop and pivot on it to face the line.
· Pass the ball to the next student in line.
· Next student does the same as the first.

Basketball Skills - 7-10 minutes
· Students find a partner and give a ball to each pair.
· Chest Pass - hold the ball chest level, elbows out, pass ball to partner.
· Bounce Pass - hold the ball chest level, elbows out, pass ball to partner by bouncing it once on the floor.
· Overhead Pass - hold the ball above the head, pass ball to partner.
· Lay on your back with hand on back of the ball and create backspin while tossing up.
· Stand up tossing ball up while creating backspin.
· Add a jump, toss the ball up creating backspin.

Hot Ball - Remainder of class
· Use one ball for each group.
· Divide the class up into teams of 4-5 students.
· Make sure the baskets are low enough for the age level.
· Each team has one ball.
· Each team is to form a small circle.
· On the start command students start passing the ball to teammates.
· When the whistle blows, the student with a ball attempts to make a basket.
· When going to the basket the student must be dribbling.
· Each team keeps track of points made.
· Each basket is only one point.

Cool Down - 2-3 minutes
· Find a partner and perform a chest passing.
· After 10 successful passes move to bounce pass.
· When you are done with bounce passing put the ball away.
